What is IP?
IP, or Internet Protocol, is the most common and widely used network protocol throughout the world. Most new computer networks are IP networks, as the protocol supports high speeds and data integrity for now and the future.
IP networks utilise industry standard structured, cabling and therefore can be installed on either existing or purpose installed cables.
Structured cabling can carry telecommunications, data, security, video and entertainment; thus installation costs are low due to the economies of scale.
Unlike traditional nurse call systems with room and ward controllers, IP networks provide a far more reliable patient communication system; maintenance is simplified with any concerns easily resolved by network technicians either on-site or remotely connected.
IP networks use industry standard cable and hardware components which are readily available ‘off the shelf’ from local computer suppliers, making replacement and repair simple, fast and economical, unlike traditional systems.
